Canine Musical Freestyle, sometimes referred to as Doggy Dancing, is a fun sport that combines obedience and tricks with your favorite songs, and a dash of creativity to make your dog shine! It’s meant to highlight the connection between you and your dog, and to showcase the things you both do best. Some routines even involve costumes and fun props to bring them together.
What if you’re not a natural dancer, you ask? Don’t worry about that at all! Actual dancing is certainly not required … unless you want to add that to your routine, that is. That’s the great thing about freestyle – you get to decide what to include for you and your dog!
In this class, you will:
- · Learn more about the sport of musical canine freestyle, opportunities to earn titles, rules, etc.
- · Teach your dog new tricks including (but not at all limited to): spins, leg weaves, back up, paw tricks, how to use props, sidestepping, and more!
- · Practice with your dog in a variety of freestyle positions around your body – there are 3 main ones that will be covered in this class
- · Choose some music that you and your dog love
- · Learn to put your new tricks into sequences to start to form your first freestyle routine
Whether you want to compete and earn dog sports titles, do a fun community or therapy visit demo, or just dance with your dog for fun in your living room, this fun class will get you started.
Pre Requisites: Home Companion Class. Your dog should be able to walk nicely next to you on leash and be able to focus on you in the presence of other dogs. Resting quietly in a crate for periods of time during class is also necessary.
