Fun with German Turns

Cost: $40 for DTCCU members, $80 for non-members

Fun you say? Yes!

Terms used in International-style agility can sound intimidating. But when you start step-by-step, you can find the skill is easier than you’d expect – and maybe even fun!

We’ll start training the skill on one jump. Then, once you and your dog have the hang of it, we’ll “climb the tree”, practicing the skill in a series. We’ll alternate our turns with forward-focused speed drills that will both offer a fun break for your dog as well as a compare/contrast learning opportunity.

If you’ve been to past workshops, you’ve seen a similar process before when we learned the Backside Slice. Past participants say they‘ve surprised themselves by being able to perform a skill they had thought was out of reach or only for experts.

All sizes and shapes of both dogs and people are welcome! No weave poles or contacts will be used in this workshop.

Prerequisite: Dogs should be experienced in driving toward targets and working with remote reinforcement. Teams should be able to send a dog to an obstacle from at least 5 feet, including sends to the backside of a jump. Teams should also be able to execute a blind cross.

If you graduated the Advanced Handling and Contacts series, or are a past participant of International Skills, Layering and Threadles workshops at DTCCU, you should feel prepared to join this class.

Length of classes: 8 weeks

Agility classes may be repeated once, if necessary.  If your dog has not learned the required skills after repeating a class you will be placed on a waiting list until there is space for you to try again.

All classes involve wait time until it is your turn to run your dog.  You must bring a crate to agility class so your dog can learn to wait calmly and quietly.
