About this workshop
In this workshop, you will get a chance to train on a Level 1 Jumpers with Weaves style course. The group will then have an opportunity to run the course in a for-fun competition.
The workshop will be held in the DTCCU outside rings. If weather does not cooperate, the event will be moved inside. No contacts will be used at this workshop.
This is a “for fun” instructional event and is not sanctioned by AKC. No points or qualifications will be awarded.
ISC Defined
The International Sweepstake Class (ISC) is an AKC non-regular class. It’s goal is to provide a dog and handler with an opportunity to demonstrate their advanced training and handling skills on various international style Standard and Jumpers With Weaves courses.
Is ISC for me?
The primary purpose of ISC is to provide US AKC handlers a platform to test international skills in competition and to prepare for AKC World Team Tryouts.
But in the past couple of years, the class has been experiencing a burst of popularity, not only among world team bound “experts”, but with regular handlers who have built the skills and want to test them and on the wide, open lines that tend to define today’s ISC courses. The handling lines of ISC courses are designed to be dog friendly and fun for them to run. This is especially true for Level 1.
You do not need to meet any official qualifications to run in ISC, and a handler can choose to run at any level.
Try it out at the workshop
ISC has three levels. While Levels 2 and 3 can be quite complex, Level 1 was designed as a training level. It offers new teams and young dogs a chance to sample the ISC experience and test their skills with moderate level challenges.
This workshop will allow you to try out an actual, timed ISC course – and run it in friendly competition – in a familiar environment.
You’ll have a chance to train on each of the course challenges before the competition begins.
Mary Young will act as our “judge”. She will provide the course and will act as agility judge for our “for fun” event.
You’ll also get a chance to learn more about ISC, including how to participate in these events.
Prerequisites for this workshop
Dogs should be able to weave 12 weave poles. They should also be experienced in driving toward targets and working with remote reinforcement. Teams should be able to send a dog to an obstacle from at least 10 feet, including to the backside of a jump. Some experience with distance handling and layering skills is recommended. Contacts will not be used at this workshop.
The course is open to current and previous members of the Masters Handling Workgroup, as well as past participants of International Skills, Layering and Threadles workshops at DTCCU.
Your team should also be graduates of Advanced Agility classes at DTCCU or the equivalent.
