All Rings
6:00-7:30 p.m. Tuesday
Instructors: Barbara Scanlan and Wendy Woods
Class limited to 6 participants
This session’s course will primarily work on handling and training challenges common to AKC Agility Excellent/Masters classes with the goal of preparing for Fall local trials.
We will run course segments that represent common design features of Excellent/Masters level courses such as distance sends, challenging weave pole entries, complex cross patterns, tight turns, layering, serpentines, and more. We will also continue to build independent performance of all obstacles while maintaining criteria.
Each session of the workgroup, we also focus on identifying and building a focus skill or two. This is usually a more complex, higher-level skill. We start from the introductory steps and build toward the finished behavior in small steps, usually over two or more weeks.
Our main Skill Builder this session will work a training progression for backside threadle rears.
Teams will likely also have an opportunity to work on higher level handling for classes like AKC Premier and ISC, and UKI.
Prerequisite: Teams should have well-defined stopped or running contact criteria at full-height, competition level. Dogs should have a solid ability to weave 12 weave poles with around-the-clock entries and exits.
Dogs should also be solidly driving toward targets and handlers should be fluent in working with remote reinforcement. Teams should be able to send a dog to an obstacle from at least 10 feet, including to a backside of a jump and to weaves.
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:
The course is open to all previous members of the Masters Handling Workgroup.
New teams should be graduates of the Advanced Agility series at DTCCU AND have a recommendation from their instructor OR be working at an equivalent level at other training schools. Please talk to the instructor if this is the case.
For questions about whether a team is prepared to take this class, please consult with your DTCCU foundations agility instructor (if enrolled) and the Masters agility team leader.
